In order to use an Amazon Web Service, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), we need an Amazon Web Services account first. We took care of that in the Signing up with Amazon Web Services manual.
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is an online storage web service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It provides unlimited storage through a simple web services interface. With S3, you only pay for what you use. Prices do vary based on the location of your Amazon S3 bucket, numbers of requests and data transfer. Creating an Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) Account
Once we’ve created an Amazon Web Services Account (AWS), we can sign up for an Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) Account. We’ll go through the steps required to sign up next.
Amazon Simple Storage Service Front Page
Go to the Amazon Simple Storage Service page, and click the ”Sign Up For Amazon S3” button.
Amazon Web Services Sign In
Sign in with your existing Amazon Web Services Account. That’s the one we created in the previous article.
Amazon Simple Storage Service Sign Up
Once logged in, we’re ready to begin the sign up process for the Amazon Simple Storage Service. The first thing to add is the billing address associated with your credit card. You can use an existing address, or enter a new one.
Along the way you’ll be asked to verify that you’re human. An automated telephone call will be made to you when you click the “phone me” button. The call is made the second you press the button. You’ll get four digits on your screen, and be asked to either enter them on your phone or say the digits out loud.

Amazon Simple Storage Service Payment Method
Select your preferred payment method where all your AWS service charges will be billed. Then enter your credit card information.
Amazon Simple Storage Service Complete Sign Up
Review your selections, and complete the sign up by clicking the button.
Amazon Simple Storage Service Activation Notification
After clicking the “Complete Sign Up” button, you’ll be directed to a page which informs you that your subscription is being activated. Amazon will e-mail you when your subscription becomes active. This usually is right away after the sign up, but it may take a few minutes to complete.
In the sign up mail, you’ll find a link to your account where you’ll get an overview over account activity such as usage and total charges.
